Nordex Introduces New Digital Printing Capabilities
for Disc Packaging and Marketing Collateral Needs
New ImagePress Print System provides customers with true on-demand 4-color printing

Camarillo, California (USA)

, May 1, 2009-Nordex Advanced Technology, Inc., an industry leader in delivering disc media solutions for a variety of business needs, today announced the introduction of the state-of-the-art ImagePress, a powerful 4-color digital printing system for on-demand printing of product packaging and all type of marketing collateral while capturing every detail of the originals with both precision and speed. The ImagePress can print color pages up to 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution and next-generation ImagePlatform technology drives output at speeds of 60 pages per minute for black and white and 14 ppm for color. Rapid "stackless" duplexing (double sided printing) adds to the overall productivity, while reducing paper costs. Eco-friendly paper stock and ink is available for all projects.

Nordex is licensed by Philips Corporation which has been in the forefront of optical data storage -- CDs and DVDs -- and has been shaped by the well-known standards for optical media. Their web site states "The approach of defining the media by means of well-defined standards has been key to the success of optical media. These standards guarantee the attractive key features of optical discs: reliability, interchangeability, compatibility and ease-of-use."

The discs must meet the standards set by Philips and only then are printed and finally placed in the printed packaging. Consumers overwhelmingly store their CDs and DVDs and in their original cases according to a joint study commissioned by the Content Delivery and Storage Association (CDSA) and the Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) and conducted by The NPD Group. The study also found that when consumers no longer want to keep a particular CD or DVD, they rarely throw it away or recycle it, preferring instead to give it away or sell or trade it. Eighty-nine percent of CD and DVD owners store their discs in their original cases. "In packaged home entertainment, consumers view the packaging cases as part of the product and not something to be tossed," noted Bo Andersen, President and CEO of EMA. "The cases provide product protection, allow easy title identification, and carry the artwork that is integral to the consumer's association with the title." With this in mind, Nordex strives to provide all the printed packaging so there is complete control over Q&A and in matching colors in the printing of both disc and packaging material.

"On-demand digital printing, that is now at Nordex, gives us faster and better results because we don't have to worry about registration and there is no film or plates to deal with," said Eduardo Razo, disc printing technician at Nordex. "We get better color than other printing methods, faster turn time and the customer benefits."
